Massage Duncan BC

Registered Massage Therapists (RMT's) in BC are health care professionals committed to restoring and maintaining optimal health and pain free function of the body. Massage therapy is recognized as one of the oldest methods of healing and is an effective approach to pain management and rehabilitation. Massage therapy helps to heal injuries by improving blood and lymph flow, and relaxing the muscles. Improved circulation and flexibility encourages proper muscle metabolism and the removal of waste products which can speed the healing process. RMT's treat, and provide relief for, a wide range of conditions such as strains and sprains, headaches, sciatica, carpal tunnel and thoracic outlet syndromes, arthritis, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, as well as many other common conditions related to soft tissue and joint dysfunction.

People often ask about muscle tension. Muscle tension is essential in order to move our bones and joints around. Our muscles must be able to contract and relax for normal mobility and movement, but when the muscles are not able to be released, they will stay in a state of tension. Muscle tension can have a number of different causes such as overuse, injury, stress, and repetitive strain. Muscle tension is relieved through the hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues and joints. A Registered Massage Therapist will work through the tight muscles to smooth out any 'knots' or contractures, and bring more circulation to the area. Sometimes gentle joint mobilization is used to help muscles let go of the tension. Also, the relaxation aspect of massage can help to relieve tension that has been caused by anxiety or stress.

To perform massage therapy, a person must, by law, be a Registered Massage Therapist. This means that they are a member of The College of Massage Therapists of BC and have completed a massage program at an institution recognized by the Government of BC. Their study must include anatomy, physiology, pathology, neurology, ethics, and condition-specific treatments. An RMT must also maintain his/her registration by participating in a quality assurance program through the College of Massage Therapists of BC which helps to maintain high professional standards and quality client care. Heather is a member of both the College of Massage Therapists of BC and the Registered Massage Therapists' Association of BC.
